Creating and Managing Overlays

Overlays are layers of content that sit on top of whatever is currently playing on a display. Use them for tickers, clocks, branding, or any content that should persist across your regular rotation.

Where to Add Overlays

You can add overlays from four places in Panelicious:

• Playlists: open a playlist for editing and go to the Overlays tab.
• Layouts: open a layout for editing and scroll to the Overlays panel.
• Displays: open a display's detail page and scroll to the Overlays section.
• Groups: open a group's detail page and scroll to the Overlays section.

Add an Overlay

1. Open the Overlays section in the location where you want to add the overlay.
2. Click + Add Overlay.
3. Choose a Content Type from the dropdown.
4. Configure the content source: - URL: enter the source URL. - Asset: choose an image or video from your asset library. - Layout: choose a layout. - Playlist: choose a playlist to loop inside the overlay. - Blank: choose a transition style: Instant, Fade, or CRT. - Home Assistant: enter a Dashboard Path and optionally toggle Kiosk mode.
5. Set the Position and Size: - Click a cell in the position grid to choose where the overlay sits: top left, top right, centre, bottom left, or bottom right. - For precise placement, select Custom and enter X, Y, Width, and Height values; toggle between % and px as the unit.
6. Optionally, enter a Name to identify the overlay in the list.
7. Optionally, set a Timeout: - Enter a number of seconds; the overlay removes itself automatically after that time. - Leave the field empty to keep the overlay permanent.
8. Click + Add Overlay.

Edit or Remove an Overlay

Each overlay row shows its content type, name, and a summary of its position and size. To reorder overlays, drag a row by its handle on the left.

To edit an overlay, click the pencil icon on its row. The same panel reopens with your existing settings pre-filled. Make your changes and confirm.

To remove an overlay, click the delete icon on its row and confirm.
