Quick Start: Get Your First Screen Up and Running

This gets you from a blank dashboard to a live display. It covers the most common setup: one Playlist, one screen. Ten minutes, maybe less.

Before you start you'll need:

• A device to use as a display: an Android device (phone, tablet, or TV) or any device with a web browser
• Something to display: a web address, an image or video file, or a Home Assistant dashboard
• Access to the Panelicious dashboard

Step 1: Upload Your Assets

If you're displaying a web address, skip this step. You'll paste it in directly when you build your Playlist in Step 2.

If you're displaying an image or video, you'll need to upload it first.

Asset storage not on your plan? Skip this step and go straight to Step 2. You can still add a URL or Home Assistant dashboard to your Playlist instead. See Plans and feature availability to check what's included in your plan.

1. Go to Assets in the left-hand menu.
2. Click Upload and select your file(s).
3. Wait for the upload to finish. Your file appears in the library and is ready to use.

Step 2: Create a Playlist

A Playlist is the sequence of content that plays on your screen. Each item plays in turn, then it loops.

1. Go to Playlists in the left-hand menu.
2. Click +NewPlaylist.
3. Give it a name. Something descriptive makes life easier later ("Main lobby" works better than "Playlist 1").
4. Click CreatePlaylist. The Playlist editor opens.
5. Click + Add Content.
6. Choose your content type from the dropdown: URL, Asset, Layout, or Home Assistant.
7. Fill in the details and click Add Item.
8. Repeat for any other items you want in the rotation.

Your Playlist is ready. Next you'll set up the device that plays it.

Step 3: Get a Pairing Code

There are two ways to get a pairing code. Use whichever suits your setup.

Method A: Android App

1. On your Android device, open the Google Play Store, search for Panelicious, and install the app.
2. Open the app. The first time you launch it, a setup screen appears asking for one permission.
3. Tap Open Settings. Your device opens the "Display over other apps" permissions list.
4. Tap Panelicious Display, then turn on Allow display over other apps.
5. Return to the Panelicious app.

This permission lets the app start automatically when the device reboots; without it, you would need to open the app manually each time the device powers on. The exact steps in Android settings vary depending on your device and Android version.

6. Your pairing code now appears on screen.

If you have another device to hand, scanning the QR code takes you straight to the pairing screen, though you may need to log in first.

Keep this screen open. You'll need the code in the next step.

Method B: Any Browser

1. On your device, open any web browser and go to display.panelicious.com.
2. Your pairing code appears on screen straight away. No app installation needed.

Keep this screen open. You'll need the code in Step 4.

Step 4: Pair Your Display

If you have another device to hand, you can scan the QR code on screen to go straight to the pairing step, though you may need to log in first.

1. In the dashboard, go to Displays in the left-hand menu.
2. Click Pair a Display.
3. Enter the code shown on your device.
4. Click Verify Code.

Your device appears in the Displays list.

Step 5: Assign Your Playlist to the Display

1. Find your display in the list.
2. Click the assignment icon on the display card.
3. Select Playlist, choose the one you just created, and click Update Assignment.

Your display starts playing within a few seconds.
